DeadMeat Beginning Outlined

Beginning

Chapter One
  • It all begins on a Dairy Farm in Somerset.
  • There is a Farmer and his 16 year old son.
  • There is a Prize Bull and his herd of Cows.
  • Though both the Farmer and the Cows cannot verbally communicate, they mutually respect each other and work towards a simple and happy existence.
  • The son is made to work every spare minute to help out with the Dairy farm. Over time the son begins to resent the cows for taking away his childhood.
  • The Cows have a very spiritual existence and, as the Hindu's believe, are sacred animals.
  • They live at peace with one and other, but notice that times are changing as the son shows a lack of respect and appreciation for the natural order.
  • Time Lapse (2 years have passed) - Son takes out further frustration on cows and the Farmer grows older and weaker.
  • The bull grows older and weaker in parallel.
  • An heir is born to take over as the Chieftain of the herd. Yet there is something different about him. Something special.
  • Time Lapse (2 years have passed) The Farmer is on his death bed and the bull has retired to his Barn to die in peace.
  • The Farmer makes his dying wish for the son to take over the farm and keep his cows safe and well. He dies and the ownership of the farm is passed on to his son.
  • Meanwhile the Chieftain gives a pep talk to his son, passing down generations of knowledge and wisdom.
  • An evil grin appears on the sons face. He plots revenge.
Chapter Two
  • With a twin barrelled shotgun he heads towards the feild.
  • He begins to shoot the cows one by one.
  • There is a struggle as the Chieftain tries to save his herd.. he is killed protecting them.
  • The Chieftain's son is faced with a choice to run or to save his herd.
  • He see's red and goes into a blind rage. Charging valiantly at the son.
  • He is shot down. Though he may have killed his body but he had not killed his soul.
  • The son decides to turn the Farm into a slaughter house business. Selling meat to the masses.
  • Meanwhile the spirits of the cows ascend to a spiritual plain.
  • They decide to perform an ancient ritual not performed for centuries. A ritual that would summon a Saviour.. a Messiah.. a Hero to seek out Justice for the natural worl.
  • The ritual brings the chieftains son back to life.. but something has gone terribly wrong. He has been cut into steaks. His spirit is channeled into part of his own arse. A 10oz Rump Steak with attitude is born.
Fade to Black

DeadMeat on hold

I recently started a new job as a Restaurant Supervisor for a 5* Restaurant.. It's really great, however, I feel absolutely knackered by the time I get home. It's not good for getting your creative juices flowing thats for sure. So with this last month being quite hectic I haven't moved the story on any further. Once I get into this new routine I'm sure things will pick up again.

On the upside I met an independant film maker in the restaurant the other day, and she happened to be Hindu! What a great opprtunity to plug my idea at someone who could have extremely valuable advice.

First off I wanted to know if my story would depict a wrong image of hindu beliefs and thus offend the hindu people. She chuckled at my story and expressed quite the opposite. She loved the idea and told me that it wouldn't offend anyone. She did comment on the story as a whole and told me, essentially, what I already knew.. finish and refine the story. It helped hearing this from a film maker, and the fact she laughed and praised the idea gave me some of the encouragement i needed.

I really look forward to the next SCC meeting to talk about my ideas with a few more people. I need a few more opinions on where his quest might lead him, and above all else the big decision of WHO are my target audience? PG, 12, 15, 18???

Monkey Cafe - Exhibition

Been a cool week for me, on thursday the 27th I was invited to join 8 other artists in exhibiting their work on the walls of Monkey. It went really well, got some great feedback and a possible magazine article about me!

I felt aprehensive at first, i was really concerned people would hate it. It was quite the opposite, however, and I recieved much praise from those who talked to me about them.

All is good in the life of Dan.. and as my last blog mentioned.. life takes another step forwards :)

2B or not 2B

Randomly I drew the sequel to "Push the Button". I didn't ink it this time, instead i took a photo, played with some variations then enhanced it with photoshop. Looks quite cool. Shows another style. I like it, it reminds me of how I used to draw when I was younger :) My inspiration is coming back Hurrah!

2B or not 2B.

The path I've chosen is clear.
The tool of my destiny is guiding me.
As I journey further away from the distractions of the modern world,
Life takes another step forwards.

Comics Collective a Complete Success! + more DeadMeat

Really happy with the meeting the other day, was great to meet some new creative minds, all with similar goals as my own. It has definately inspired me to keep the ball rolling on this DeadMeat project. I'm now referred to as "The DeadMeat Guy" hahaha! I got some great feedback and a few ideas for the story. I'm starting to fill in the blanks. The beginning is solid. The middle still needs work, and the end is starting to evolve it something more. I'm still a little apprehensive to start drawing strips until the whole story fits together.

I've got a structure in mind, it has to balance properly. Balance is integral to the story, I want it to read well, flow and captivate the audience.

I really like the idea of playing with different social structures, and language will be another bridge to cross when it comes to it. I want a believable cultural and social structure to each "race". Emphasising on gesture and actions to tell the story.

No 2 race can fully understand each other, Humans - Cows, Cows - Rats, etc. So the way they communicate is key to the success of this story. It will add a different dimension with cultural references from our own religions. I particularly like the idea of some hindu beliefs for the cows. Maybe they could represent the Natural world, with a natural and ethical way of thinking, and how it was betrayed by our material world and consumer driven society. I really want this story to be a comedy, with a deeper sub context which relates to the world we live in.

I can't forget it's a story about revenge and as much as I really enjoy revenge stories, there has to be that connection with the audience. It has to emote empathy, sympathy, love and hatred on some sort of personal level. I want the moral of the story to be justified and non-hyprocritical of who I am as a person. I don't believe in killing someone for eating meat and owning a slaughter house, that's obvious. However I do believe that in some way people should be punished for the injustices we cause to other living beings. Treating them like material objects with no thoughts, fears or emotions. This is the essence of his story. DeadMeat acts as a figure head for the natural world. The world we humans have started to forget and take advantage of. There is a bigger picture, we have been blinded from the truth.

It's great to start feeling this connection with the story, I have a contact that works for Disney/Pixar in Florida as the Director of Product Management. It would be great for me to get his feedback on the Story to see if it has potential for the Movie screen as a 3D animation (the way i see it in my mind).

There is still a lot to do, a script to be written and a storyboard to be outlined. If only I had enough money to concentrate more on this and worry less about the bloody recession in the UK right now ARGH!

I've got another Story in the works too and an idea for another Self Portrait. The Story looks at an ancient Mayan Prophecy and a new Super Hero is born from the ashes. The Self portrait is going to be similar to my last, in a similar style, but showing a progressive story. I've chosen my path and I want to see where my destiny will take me.

As you can see ideas are still flowing. Which is great :)

I'm still pressing skip unfortunately (if u get my meaning). Modern Day life's distractions still have a grip on me. I've accepted that its wrong but until my 25th birthday i don't care! Rock on! ORC SMASH!

hehe one day I will get into the Games or Film Industry. It's still a dream of mine and I won't let my University shinannigans get in the way of it!

thanks for reading,

Dan

DeadMeat Continued

going back to the rat sidekick...

Maybe he could integrate into their own society, while not
being able to communicate with them he could learn their ways and have
a small rat army. Mirroring Conan's kingship to the Aquilonians. would
be quite cool to have the whole thing themed with more grit. kinda
dark like batman or 300. maybe as he gets older he withers and dies,
the flesh of the meat could mimic growing older..?

maybe he only has 3 days til he's "Past his sell by date" to finish
his quest for revenge... Has to keep topping up in cold environments
to live longer. Mirroring the same sorta theme from "Crank"

at the end he could be pretty much dead.. and maybe serve himself to
the son.. poisoned?

Revenge is a dish best served cold you might say

hehehe

I'm looking forward to mimicing the classic disney build up to a
really brutal ednding. i want the first half to be light hearted and
happy-go-lucky with an epic crash and burn, similar to the latest
Punisher movie.

i'm looking forward to getting the ball rolling, got a few initial
concepts on my blog and in my sketch book.

let me know what u think.

I'm looking for a writer to help me conceptualise a script. The
characters are quite strong in my mind i know exactly how i want them
to be.

any response would be appreciated, good or bad.

cheers for reading :)

The Story of Deadmeat

im workin on a story at the mo for a comic idea.

i've got a plot, character and backstory sorted. i dunno if it'll work and my main characters actual quest is still uncertain. its a story about revenge, but with a completely different perspective. a story like disney gone wrong. make sense ? hehe i dunno man the character is a little off the wall. His motives for revenge are clear, but what he actually does to seek it is still unsure.

i need to build on a few other characters.. maybe sidekicks etc. i've got 3 characters back stories just about done. that includes, father figure, hero and villain. i need a wise man. hmm and a sidekick. 2 main characters are always better to work with. 1 exactly the opposite to the other.

do u think a story like conan can work in modern day?

i want it to be a hack and slash comedy series appealling to a geek, silly humour, vegetarian (lol you'll see why in a mo) comic audience. I want it to have a good balance of good and bad. like black and white. a yin and yang style to it. A true anti hero story.

Our hero is.. a pissed off 10oz Rump Steak called Deadmeat.

Intro:

parallel stories. A herd of cows on a cattle farm and the life of the cattle farmer and his son.

Farmer owns a farm of dairy cows, loves his cows, loves his farm. Farmer's boy hates cows and is made to spend every last minute helping his single father run the farm.
Time goes on and you see a hatred grow in the boy as he gets older. His father becomes old and weak, unable to work on the farm. When his father dies the son sells the farm and has all the cows sent to the slaughter house.

Cows live on a farm with their caring farmer and his wretched son. (sceen with farmer feeding and tending to his cows mirrored by boy with paintball gun using cows as targets, etc)
There is a Bull and his son. They are like the chieftains of the herd. Each one having a similar cultural structure to that of the red indians. a tribe. like cavemen and women. simple tasks. eating. producing milk. reproducing. and so on.

As the bull gets older he has a son that is due to take over as the head of the tribe.

But before he has the chance he watches as his father is put down, and the dairy cows sent for slaughter. He was killed last and much more personally.

the souls of the dead tribe are drawn to a house. They gather to perform an ancient spiritual ritual passed down through the generations. The animals of life (cows) ressurect him, something goes wrong and he is born again as a steak made from his own arse.

(fade to black)

End of comic 1

(opening eyes effect)

faced with bright white light, a humming noise and encased in a transparent packaging the chief's son starts panicing. in the fluster he breaks out of his packaging and discovers he's been brought back as what is know as a 10oz Rump Steak. He is icy cold and surrounded by giant vegetables, similar to the ones he used to be given by his farmer. He tries to eat one and absolutely loves it. a vegetarian steak. lol

After several hours of attempting to find an exit, frustration sets in. he starts running into walls, punching them and kicking them (with what you can only assume are the limbs of a steak hehe). His power is unleashed. Although only as small as a steak he is empowered with the strength of a bull.

He bursts out of the fridge into this vast canyon (or so it seems to him) yet its not the same. this world is unfamiliar. he climbs onto the nearest cliff (kitchen unit) and explores for a way out. On his journey he comes accross a giant wooden statue. Engraved in this statue is written "Steak Knives".

"this is a sign from god" he thinks to himself and (sword in the stone style) pulls a steak knife from its pedestal *it glistens in the sunlight* appearing magical to his eyes.

theres is a noise. a jingling noise and a loud *click-clunk*. a rush of wind blows into his face as he hear loud voices and booming vibrations afoot. getting closer and closer, louder and louder.

End of comic 2

The door flies open and the steak finds cover. armed with his sword (knife) of destiny (steak cutting) he is faced with a dialema. 2 humans enter the room, 1 male 1 female. they don't look hostile. But you're not ready to take any chance, especially after the ordeal he's just been through.

... To be continued

Anyway thats as far as my brain is going to tell this story so far.

I need to work on a 3rd parallel story of the couple. maybe i could mix up the story a little. after comic 2 maybe i could start a whole new story telling you about the couple. then lead up to them coming home. linking both stories together. That works for me.

I want to foresee the outcome of this story before i get into it headstrong. i dont want to come to a stale mate too early. maybe make it as a graphic novel... orrr an ongoing story in comic form..? does a story like this have enough of a motive to last the distance? that, i'm not sure of.

However i could start and see how it evolved naturally to me. Doi want this to take me on a journey or do i want to plan ahead.. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Wow brain wave:

a couple based on me n zoe:

drive a beetle
wanna change the world
little super steak comes along
he acts as their right arm of justice
he acts on revenge in a bull like fashion
whereas we convince him to have moral values

The story struggles between good and evil in a comic like way

The terminator movie rings a bell. mindless killing robot. mindless killing steak. persuaded to do good by humans.

hmm.. pet rat. sidekick? goin too far with talking things? hmm i think so..

as u can see indeas are still popping in and out. Its by no means finished, scripts need to be written, artwork produced, inking, colouring printing, publishing.. jesus.. lots to do so little time.
